The best salespeople know: Even the product that “sells itself” takes work to sell.
The fact is: One of the primary pieces to sales is hearing a lot of “NO”s.
How you feel about hearing those NO’s is a whole sales cycle skill unto itself. (Yep, stay tuned for more on that.) And collecting NO’s to earn your way closer to the next YES is also a game that a lot of salespeople play.
But can you convert any NO responses to YES replies??
Well, the answer to that is … YES!
Follow these steps for the fastest route to conversion:
Make a list of all of the most common reasons people say no to your product or service. Your company likely has a handy written copy ready for you. And if not, you can whip it up yourself (or with the help of a sales trainer or coach): Just jot down all of the reasons people give you for their “no thanks” responses throughout 1-2 sales days; make an X or other identifier for any that you hear repeated. Your list will quickly grow itself.
Add a column to that list for bridge replies. These are the impromptu-sketch “yes-and” responses that make connections & take away many of the most common objections. (<— Most are so anticipated, there’s a generic chart where you can find them, special thanks to HubSpot.)
Practice putting your own spin on these replies. The more you have the same conversation, the more you feel confident having it——& conducting it to where you ideally want it to go.
