(Pssst) Do YOU dread selling ... ??
Which part of the sales cycle puts you off the most?
Selling plays a big role in workplace success. Even the non-salesperson must often pitch ideas, earn buy-in to big changes or convince others to go along & get along. Those classic sales tactics (How to Win Friends & Influence People, anyone?) can be off-putting … especially when they are the only parts we rely on in business selling.
THE REAL SECRET TO SALES SUCCESS IS MAKING AUTHENTIC CONNECTIONS.
While students of Dale Carnegie have long mastered the art of adding their clients family’s names & birthdays to Rolodexes & CRM systems, those same clients have evolved beyond being impressed by such memory tricks.
The first step in being authentic with others to be real with yourself.
Let’s do an exercise.
Think of the last sales conversation you had or of one you had that sticks out in memory as really not going the way you wanted.
Ask yourself, “When I recall this conversation, what do I feel in my body, moods & thoughts?”
Break the convo down into its different working parts: cold call, icebreaker conversation starter, featured product or service features, overcoming objections, money ask, closing commitment—or any other part of the sales cycle. Which piece ramps up your discomfort the most? This is the part you need to gain more awareness of in order to shift your perspective & find tools to make it easier.
Almost every challenge we have, in sales & in life, can be reduced with a little practice. What’s YOUR next step?
