With all the conferences, webinars, research articles & newly-defined potential in the exploding field of AI, artificial intelligence is the hottest of hot topics everywhere, including the business world. But what about those pieces we may never be able to train our computers to do?
I’m talking, of course, about emotion. It’s the biggest talking point within the hot topic of conversation, & although it sets us humans apart from other species (& from robots, computers & machines), we have often worked to suppress or manage our emotions in the workplace at times to the point of pretending we don’t have them.
Welcome to a more emotionally evolved work environment.
The good news: You can still send your AI otter to virtual meetings. You’ll get all the data on who spoke more; who’s assigned which action to move forward; & exactly when that deadline you need to know is due. You’ll just miss out on the emotion contagion in the virtual room … which may or may not be a good thing.
According to Calendly’s State of Meetings comprehensive report on 2024 trends, more bodies (& brains) in the room—even the Zoom room—equals better brainstorming. And other data supports that emotion can be a creative aid.
Their finding that “inviting with intention” is a Meetings 101 best practice means that when you invite the right real-live humans to connect with you in meeting format, you & your team can get things done. They also share these meeting invitation email templates & tips.
What else is emotional intelligence good for?
“EQ,” or the emotional intelligence quotient of any given individual, comprises a number of parts. In an article that may very well ironically have been written by or at least with the aid of AI, the sales software website Passive Secrets & its developer Valentine Okoronkwo have gathered a number of sources & statistics to lay out 25+ interesting facts—like the details in the graphic below.
Two key highlights not pictured: 87% of Millennials say they’re motivated by the emotional intelligence of their leaders; 95% of entrepreneurs surveyed in 2020 stated that they believed EQ was more important than IQ in the workplace.
